For Conferences


General Information About English for Conferences Course:

This course is for professionals with at least a pre-intermediate level of English, including a good speaking ability.  It is aimed towards those who have contact with international organizations and who need to be able to express themselves in speaking and writing before a large audience.  This is a practical course in which participants are expected to bring their own real-life experience to the classroom.

Course Outline:

Topics include:

  • Audience and purpose
  • Style
  • Register
  • Non-verbal communication (eye contact, body language, gestures, etc.)

Objectives include:

  • Maintaining clarity of expression
  • Using tables and diagrams
  • Agreeing and disagreeing
  • Asking and answering questions appropriately
  • Being a good audience member

Tasks include:

  • Writing an abstract for a conference paper
  • Presenting the conference paper
